Not many takers for H1B visas

WASHINGTON: Applications for H-1B work visas, once most sought-after among Indian IT professionals, have not even reached the 50 per cent mark of the Congressional-mandated quota of 65,000, US officials have said, amid India’s concerns over the fee hike for the scheme.

According to the latest figures released by the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), just 29,700 people had applied for H-1B visas till August 13.

Till two years ago, the cap for both the categories of H-1B visas was reached within the first few days and USCIS had to resort to computerised draw of lots to decide the successful applicants.

The low-key response this year comes amid India’s concerns over the hike in H1-B and L1 visa fee, which would adversely affect Indian IT companies.

“We are in touch with the Indian Government and are trying as best as we can to answer the questions they have about this new law,” a senior US official, familiar with the ongoing Indo-US talks on this issue, said.

Union Commerce and Industry Minister, Mr Anand Sharma, had last week also written a letter to US Trade Representative, Mr Ron Kirk, on the issue.

Under the $600 million border security bill signed into law by President Barack Obama, nearly $550 million would be raised by increasing the fee in the categories of H-1B and L1 visas for the next five years, which would mostly impact Indian IT companies . - PTI

Hmm.... one of several things is going on here: 1) they are lying to placate the American public into believing the caps are not being reached, 2) the gov't doesn't enforce the caps anyway, 3) Corporations really are running scared because they know it is they who wrecked the economy with their cheap 3rd world labor gambit.

One does have to wonder then how 130,000 foregin guest workers continue to pour into the U.S. month after month, year after year if the visa rates are at 50%. That's only 32,000 per year or around 3000 per month. How are the other 100,000 of them getting into the U.S?

On L-1s? Illegally?

Or have so many of them been here so long now they have become residents and can just get hired?

So much for the big lie back in 1998 that these TEMPORARY guest workers would all be going home after the boom.

The boom's over India - time to leave.

Hmmmm...Several things are going on here:

Almost all large and medium sized companies are well versed with the outsourcing model. This decreases the # of people needed on site because processes are already in place.
A lot of on-site roles are performed by former H1-B who are either green card holders or US citizens.
Outsourcing cannot be reversed although 'insurgents' can keep screaming about few examples of Dell, Apple or whatever. In such a huge sector, there are bound to be some failures.
The growth will definitely slow down because of the law of large numbers. No big deal.

These are bitter truths for the insurgency led by a bunch of sissies. Forget about the 'getting their heads blown off' crap. It ain't gonna happen.

I find it amusing - it never fails...  Those who seem to be gleeful that Americans are being adversely affected by the H-1B and offshoring always resort to personal attacks when we get "uppity", as demonstrated by BigR.

Not only can we reverse outsourcing we are. The loud voices of tens of millions of Americans on the net over the past few years have been instrumental in changing the mindsets of American corporate managers. From Michael Dell to Jeff Immelt, companies are bailing out of India in droves due to the total and comprehensive economic failure of India, Inc. at keeping the American economy going.

The failures are so vast & so pervasive that public can no longer ignore what has become an undeniable reality: India, Inc. sucks at business and everyone knows it. Apple and Dell are just the huge bright examples at the top of an otherwise unstoppable reverse trend that is now taking place.

Face it India, you had your chance. Your game is over and you all get to go home to sell vegetables or go back to being unemployed. A change is in the wind and there's nothing you can do to stop it.

BigR,

Besides, Americans don't have to do anything about outsourcing. Indiots are seeing to it that there is so much failure no company will go near them. Besides, the arrogant are always punished and India is about as arrogant as it can get right now. Like I said before, the companies that hire Indiots will die out and the ones who don't will thrive. You're putting an end to outsourcing on your own - you don't need us to help you. LOL.

Every insurgency in the world claims that eventually they would succeed. Most of them fail. And you guys are not even true insurgents. It takes certain amount of gall to claim that your 'battle' against outsourcing is succeeding. Let's say some cataclysmic event happens and entire India with billion+ population gets wiped out. Even then majority of the jobs won't return to US for good. Corporate honchos will soon find the next big hotspot in outsourcing which will be outside of N.America and Western Europe. The first rule to wining a war is 'Know thy enemy'. You don't even know much about India and Indians. And there are more powerful players than slumdogs and their NASSCOM. You wimps can rant all you want, but you're good for nothing. You don't have what is takes to fight the mighty forces of globalization simply because you are a tiny (but loud and cranky) minority. First elect Ron Paul or someone like him and then we'll see. Some of you pathetic guys actually think Chuck Schumer is you friend.

Well now, that's an interesting thought - and actually quite likely given that you are all a nation of conmen and burglars - and that you have spent the past decade systematically robbing every western country on earth. Given that your arch-rival next door has nukes aimed at you and that those nukes are close to falling into the hands of the Taliban, I'd say it doesn't look too good for India. In fact, I think it's inevitable in time. So you may want to be careful about what you say.

The U.S. corporate honchos that keep offshoring will all go out of biz while the ones who hire Americans will thrive. It is absurd to think that people who cannot make their own country function can help corporate America. As the past decade has shown, it hasn't been working so far given the state of the world economy. You cannot deny the biggest recession in 70 years.

It is quite absurd to think that a bunch of slumdog H1Bs will precipitate mother of all recessions. But you are hardly unique. Even for recession of 2001 and Enron fraud, some retards were blaming H1B visa holders. Anyone can check archive for Google Group alt.computer.consultants (formerly part of deja news). Amazingly, some of them used to sound just like you guys. So this insurgency or whatever is a small, incestuous community of old coots. Another startling resemblance is many of them used to claim to be veterans (GIs, marines etc) or some kind of pioneers in IT. It was laughable then and it is laughable now. LOL!

The 'Outsourcing on Skids' blog is interesting. Nowhere does it say the outsourcing/offshoring will fail because of incompetence of slumdog IT workers. But if the price differential diminishes due to rising slumdog wages or US dollar corrects to realistic levels, your wet dreams  might come true. But most likely, the jobs will find new home in some cheaper locales and very soon you sissies will be back in whining business. Did someone say Vietnam?

Indiots have to rant against Americans because they are so insecure and afraid. They know they are incompetents and destroy everything they touch and they know the spotlight has been shone on them and they are now under a microscope. That's why they're so nervous about us - they know we are exposing the India, Inc. Fraud & Failure show and they can't stand it. Plus they do it to play psy-ops games with us to try to destroy our confidence. They hype themselves up relentlessly while pushing the message Americans are stupid. They have to because they are so afraid people will learn the truth about them.

I just can't wait to see what happens when they bust into Japan and do this. We're going to see some pretty amazing revolts over there when the Indiots try this crap. UK is deporting them, severely restricting who can come in, and most EU countries want nothing to do with them.

Since the rest of the civilized world is going in that direction, it's only a matter of time until the U.S. follows suit. Indeed it has already begun.

"None of the links provided by James even remotely allude to H1Bs, slumdogs, Indians or any foreigners in general being specifically responsible for issues or lawsuits."

Of course they don't. Do you think NASSCOM-paid media is going to headline an article like "Indians at IBM caused failure"? Of course not.

Yet we don't need that kind of evidence since we already know IBM is full of more Indiots than Americans. It's a well known fact that IBM is one of the biggest outsourcers in India and the worldwide IBM services divisions are full of Indians. So we don't need any articles to say that - we already know if it's IBM's fault, then it's India's fault.

"There is absolutely no correlation. Somewhere they even hint failure of storage hardware."

Yes there is - every company that fills up with slumdogs has problems. You can trace the failures like a trail of breadcrumbs to every company. Every time.

The problem in question was that when the hardware did fail, the site that was supposed to provide backup didn't work. Hardware, or software, the slumdogs were responsible for seeing to it that both the hardware and the backup site worked. Neither did. Another India, Inc. fail.

Drum roll please. After scouring the net for days and hours, James finally found 'clinching evidence' to prove that all ills of corporate America can be blamed on slumdog H1Bs and Indiots. Any astute observer who has followed the development of 787 Dreamliner knows how many issues it has faced so far. I am not here to educate anyone on the Dreamliner's problems, but here are some of the recent glitches:

"The glitch involves the horizontal stabilizers manufactured in Italy by Alenia Aeronautica, a subsidiary of Finmeccanica SpA, a company that has caused Boeing supply headaches in the past."
http://online.wsj.com/article/NA_WSJ_PUB:SB10001424052748704911704575327480901961078.html

"The second flight of Boeing’s 787 was not as smooth as the first a week ago, according to reports. The flight lasted just over two hours, but the landing gear indicators reported conflicting data."

" 787 first delivery now expected mid-Q1 2011
Delay comes after Rolls-Royce engine blew up this month"

And how many idiot insurgents know about the AT&T's communication software glitch of Jan 1990? A major portion of the monopoly's long distance network was down. Many airline agents had to do the bookings by hand and there was chaos in several major hubs. All this happened in good old pre-H1B days. I have many such examples, but let's have them one at a time.

I am sure the Dreamliner will eventually overcome the problems and will soar to success.
But every time James tries to fly high, he crash lands on his sorry ass. Thud!

And if BigRetard had done his homeworkhe would have discovered that Rolls Royce also sent most of its design & engineering work to India. Lol. And I am sure if I dug into the landing gear problem I would find India along that trail somewhere too. For close to 40 years RR designed and built reliable commercial jet engines without a glitch. As soon as slumdogs get involved the things start blowing up. It is insanity to think that a country that is incapable of creating its own jet engines and creat them for some other country. More delusions by Desis. Keep dreaming Indiots. At least of the 787's major systems had Indiots involved and all 3 of those failed and had to be redone, sometimes multiple times. Face it, you failed again.

As for 1990, that was 20 years ago. America's brilliant IT workforce that created the 90s boom was just going to college then. You can hardly compare the American generation that created the biggest economic boom in America's history to a bunch of old mainframe programmers trying to work on a phone system. At least our sewage is covered. We don't have to paint religious icons on public walls to get men to stop peeing against them in broad daylight. We don't have dead body pieces from incomplete cremations littering riverbanks for dogs to find. Our public sanitation workers aren't issued a whisk broom and a big bowl to scoop up human poop from streets. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=orIFs72HGmM

The amazing thing about India is that they are so incapable yet so delusional. No other country on earth of such retarded people would be so delusional to think that America needs 10 million of them to survive. Any psychologist would say that India is suffering   some form of mass delusion or psychosis - probably as a defense mechanism to compensate for the hell they have to face at home every day.
