INT. WIDECOUNTRY HEADQUARTERS LOBBY - MORNING

A pensive Rudy sees Sammy enter the lobby, then the elevator,
so he quickly wedges his hand between the doors...

               INT. WIDECOUNTRY ELEVATOR - SAME

And enters. They share a smile.

                                   SAMMY
I hear Peak Framework is on
                         schedule. Mitch reports great
                         things about you.

                                   RUDY
Yeah, Mitch, uh...we need to talk
                         about Mitch.

INT. SAMMY'S OFFICE - MOMENTS LATER

Rudy follows Sammy to his privileged, colossal office with
ocean views, stunning art on the walls, and photos of Sammy
               with politicians.

Sammy notices that a picture of the Shah of Iran posing with
some members of his entourage catches Rudy's eye.

                                   SAMMY
On the far left, my father, just
two days before a firing squad
knocked on our front door. Lucky
for us we left an hour earlier.
                             (beat)
Things can change very fast in
life...for the better, and for the
                         worse.

They both think about that for a moment, then Sammy
               continues.

                                   SAMMY
                         So...what about Mitch?

Rudy breathes deep, about to enter uncharted territory.

                                   RUDY
                         He fired Kevin Flanagan.

                                   SAMMY
Well, let's be honest...you owe me
one. I knew he wouldn't last, but
                         I did it for you...as a favor.

Rudy thinks twice about moving ahead, but he has to.

                                   RUDY
Flanagan saved my life in Iraq. I
trust him. Mitch demanded that he
bypass the workflow system on a
                         bogus loan app.

Sammy changes his tone. Now he's pissed.

                                   SAMMY
                         You're telling me Mitch would
                         purposely violate our protocols?

                                   RUDY
I can't speak for him. But when
                         Flanagan refused, Mitch fired him.

Sammy believes Rudy and considers his next move. This give
               Rudy a chance to continue.

                                   RUDY
And did you know that Mitch is
                         filling this shop with Indian
                         workers and it's not legal.

                                   SAMMY
                         So now you're a lawyer?

                                   RUDY
Hell no, but I saw Mitch at a talk
given by a lawyer named Larry
Finkel. He's an expert at scamming
                         the H-1B system with cheap
                         foreigners.

                                   SAMMY
Why are you concerned about this?
                         Your job is safe.

                                   RUDY
I'm not worried about my job,
                         Sammy. Mitch is putting
                         WideCountry in jeopardy.

Sammy leans back in his chair and eyes Rudy calmly. He
considers the different outcomes. Thirty years of business
in one of the most cutthroat markets has prepared him for
this. He dials his phone and waits a moment.

                                   MITCH (O.S. ON SPEAKERPHONE)
                         Good morning, Sammy!

                                   SAMMY
Mitch, I need to see you in my
                         office immediately.

                                   MITCH (O.S. ON SPEAKERPHONE)
                         Be right there, boss.

               Sammy moves closer to Rudy.

                                   SAMMY
You're sure you saw Mitch with this
                         Finkel lawyer?

                                   RUDY
                         Yes.

Sammy pulls on his face, very upset.

                                   SAMMY
This company is my child. But it
                         comes with enormous challenges.
                         Managing people is the biggest.
                             (beat)
You can never be sure what they're
thinking. How do you keep them
                         happy and productive?
                             (beat)
Mitch has been with me since day
one, and he's never been a problem.

Suddenly, a smiling Mitch walks into the office. His smile
               disappears when he sees Rudy.

                                   MITCH
                         Hi, boss.

Sammy cuts right to the chase, very pissed.

                                   SAMMY
Why did you fire Kevin Flanagan?

So now Mitch looks to Rudy, very pissed.

                                   MITCH
You knew he wasn't any good, Sammy.
I had enough of his bullshit and...

Mitch is unnerved, so he takes a moment to gather his
               thoughts.

                                   MITCH
When he was insubordinate, I had
just cause so we aren't exposed.

                                   SAMMY
                         How exactly was he insubordinate?

Mitch delays a long beat again to consider his response. He
               can't lie to Sammy.

                                   MITCH
He refused to bypass the loan
origination workflow on an app I
                         needed done immediately.

                                   SAMMY
That could put us at great risk.

Mitch knows he's in a jam, so he takes a deep breath and
               tries to turn the tide.

                                   MITCH
                         Why is Rudy here, boss?
                             (beat)
We should discuss this in pri...

               Sammy cuts him off.

                                   SAMMY
                         Are you systematically staffing
                         this place with Indian programmers?

                                   MITCH
No. But our ROI with them has been
                         phenomenal.

                                   SAMMY
I'll give you that, Mitch, you know
                         how to choke the chicken.

                                   MITCH
                         Boss?

                                   SAMMY
                         Our relationship has reached it's
                         inevitable conclusion. Leave the
                         premises immediately.

Rudy stands there stunned, as Mitch slinks out in disbelief.
               Sammy smiles at him.

                                   SAMMY
And Rudy, I know it's sudden, but I
need you to assuming Mitch's job.
Peak Performance is at a critical
                         point.

                                   RUDY
I'll do whatever it takes, Sammy.

               Sammy nods, knowing he will.

                                   SAMMY
You have to figure out how we can
work around the usual red flags on
                         some sub-prime loan apps.

                                   RUDY
                         Work around?

                                   SAMMY
                         Low credit scores, old
                         bankruptcies, repos, high debt to
                         income ratios, no money down...they
can all sink an application. And
that's money out of our pocket!
                             (beat)
But money has never flowed easier
in the history of America. Lenders
want to lend, and borrowers want to
borrow, and we're not going to stop
them! Instead, we have to make it
                         easier for everyone.

                                   RUDY
                         I'll get it done.

                                   SAMMY
                         I know you will, Killer.

They shake hands as the events create a tighter bond between
               them.
